Hi, I'm new to the forums and I have a pretty bad problem. History: I've had this computer for like 2 years and replaced my intel mobo with an asus p4p800-e or something like that. Well, anyways it started a couple of weeks ago that my computer started freezing. I thought my computer was really hot so I bought a new CPU fan. I just installed it right now and it froze again 4 minutes later. I don't overclock anything and all my drivers are up to date with OEM drivers.
I did notice that my computer is kinda hot though, so I don't know what it is.
Can you guys help me?
specs:
2.8ghz w/ HT
1 gig dual chan ram
9800 pro
XP SP2 |

Like halo 123 said, get a temperature if you can, run memtest 86, http://www.memtest86.com/
and try a different power supply(borrow a friends if ya don't have a spare).
Also, welcome to the forums!

if you run motherboard monitor or everest they will tell you how hot your cpu, gpu(if it can be monitored) and case are. |

Thanks for the welcome =)
Anyways, I just installed ASUS Probe 2 and it said my CPU is at 39 degrees C/102 degrees F. Is that hot, or not? Also, my mobo temperature is at 37 degrees C/98 degrees F. ASUS probe said everything's normal, so I don't know.....
EDIT: My friends don't have spare ones, and my bro has the same power supply as me and nothing's wrong with his PC. Also, I already thought about the memtest thing, but I don't have a floppy drive or a zip drive so I can't really use it.

And my problem isn't shutting down suddenly; it freezes randomly. So I don't think I could borrow his power supply for that long. It froze when I played party poker online, java games, when I just leave my computer idle, and when I use AIM. It's really random, I first thought it was java that froze my computer, but it wasn't. |

You can use memtest on a cd i believe, also if you download everest home edition it is free and will give you all the information you want. If you click on computer then sensors within everest look at the voltages being supplied. It will tell you what voltages are coming from the 12v and 5v line. +/- 5% of stated voltage is fine if its a lot more than that that may be your problem. I'd still say its a memory problem, but it may be that your psu is spiking and causing problems with graphics card supply |
