reproducible grinding sound -- error?

either I've never had this happen before or i pay even less attention than i think I do. I recently noticed that every time i access my floppy drive (yes -- i still have one around...), I get a 1-2 second buzzing/grinding sound from the floppy drive... it's actually quite loud and annoying. It's totally reproducible and I have no idea what the heck could be causing it. does anyone have any suggestions for me?

They do seem to bump and grind. They are, after all, a throwback to the 90's.. (?). Mine buzzez as it reads, and sounds like a woodpecker on boot up.

I still have a 5 1/4 drive I'm thinking of hooking up... 'ya never know when you might need it!

Make sure there isn't something in it like the protective shields and/or little spring-thingys from the floppy disks.
