I'm currently having issues getting my home network to function properly.
Network:
Cable modem connected to WAN port on 16 port hub
Hub branches to all my other PCs in my home using Cat 5 ethernet.
PC's:
Xp machine - 2800 AMD
Win98 - pentium 1 - 166MMX - printer attached using parrallel cable
Win98 - Amd thunderchicken 1400
Win98 - pentium 1 - 133 laptop
Issue:
Computers cannot see each other on the network to share files/printers.
All computers can surf on internet just fine, all grab proper Ip's etc.
Issue is definately with windows because DOS based games can use LAN IPX/SPX and UDP to play games on my network.
Following protocols are installed on all PC's
TCP/IP (obviously)
IPX/SPX
NetBUI
File/printer sharing
client for microsoft networks
Sometimes the 98 machines can see each other and occasionally pull shared files from the XP machine but for the most part they are all flaky. XP machine cannot detect the printer on the 98 machine either.
All computers are also on the same work group.
I've attempted to use the WinXP network setup disc but again the results are flaky at best.
