Network problems on laptop....

Hey people, I have just bought a new Laptop for Uni and thought would try out internet before I go.... I have an Ethernet Cable and and Ethernet Port on my laptop (and ethernet card seems to be in place) so I just plugged it in as it says on sites..... However I get nothing, it still says not connected to Internet but in 'Network Connections' it says the 10/100 is connected and running....
I have noooooo idea whats going on.... any help wud be greatly appreciated! Cheeers

is the link light lite up on the network card?

start - run - type CMD - Type Ipconfig /all

Report back with results, if you have all 000's.

Type ipconfig /renew at the flashing cursor prompt
