    Troubleshooting

How can I troubleshoot a PC?
There is no signal going to the monitor, the HD seems to be inactive. There is power going to the mobo.
    Where do I start?

first check to see if the power supply is plugged in to the board all the way. If it still does not power on try a different power supply.

Pull the mainboard out of the case and try booting the system with minimal hardware. CPU, memory, and video card. See if the system will post... If the systems posts, add the hard disk and all the other goodies and see if it will boot to the OS. If it boots to the OS, throw the system back together...

Did you try a different keyboard? Also leave the mouse unpluged.
Are you sure the keyboard is pluged in the keyboard port and not the mouse? Thats very easy to do on some systems.

Next try clearing the CMOS, turn of the power and set the cmos jumer to clear, then back again. Turn on the power again and see what happens.

Has this machine been tampered with before? What is the history, is it yours? Did it just suddenly die?
