Go to your motherboard manufacturer's website. The more reputable ones, list which RAM has been tested and found to be compatible with your board.
There has been, in recent months, a lot of good RAM being rejected, especially by AMD 939 and older NForce and Intel boards with dual channel.
Crucial will make sure that you get the right stuff. http://www.crucial.com/ |

This ram does not need to be paired unless you want dual channel mode enabled. [if your pc has that ability] If you want dual channel you will need 2 exactly identical pieces, brand, size and chip numbers.

Dual channel runs fine 9 times out of ten using just the same size and speed of ram...
Some boards are a little more finicky than others when it comes to timings and specs, but more often as long as they are the same size, and can run at the same speed your fine...
What is the info on you board... is there a model no# |
