Compaq Presario 5000 wont boot up

Hey, new here, need some help.

Compaq Presario 5000, plugged everything in, turned on power, nothing on Compaq MV520 screen... just blank, light on monitor goes from green to orange.

Any suggestions?

is it a brand new computer? did you do anything to it when this happened (moved it, dropped it, bumped it....anything to give us a start). anything like lightning, or clocks resetting....surges or anything like that. Or are you just unlucky and it decided to up and die on ya lol.

after answering that.....lets get to know you...how are you with computers (do you have absolutely no idea...can you sorta hold your own if you have too, or somewhere inbetween). if you know what you're doing sort of and you can easily recognise your graphics card and memory, try removing both and reinserting them (make sure the computer is unplugged or atleast turned off!). Before you touch any equipment touch a bare metal part of the case so that you balance yourself out with the computer and don't shock it!

Don't worry about not knowing the ropes yet....the other people here will let you know if you're breaking a rule or something (and they're usually pretty nice about it to lol) I can't say I know all too much about computers, but what I do know I've mostly learned from the people here, and trust me...if you need computer help, this is the place to be!!

My knowledge of computers is lower novice, I used to do some programming dabbling C++, HTML, Java 2, vb6... for the most part 8 or 9 years ago as a teenager I was a yahooing skript kiddie. That's the extent of my knowledge.

Right now, this Compaq Presario, is not not mine, friend's who wanted to throw it out so I thought I'd fix it up and try to sell it for some buck. No I didn't drop it and he has no idea what the heck happened. It's a fairly unusual problem that I only ran into once back 5 or 6 years ago with a Dell optiplex and I forget how I dealt with it then.

I'll try reinserting the vid card and memory, let you know what happens.

My friends Compaq presario 5000 won't start up anymore because she unplugged it for a few days and when she plugged it back in, it asks for a security code?? She said it has never done that before and doesn't know what the security code is. Can anyone help me?
