Is this PSU ok for my PC ?

    Hey all

    This is the PSU

    Evergreen Silentking-3 400W

    +3.3V - 30A
    +5V - 28A
    +12V(1) - 14A
    +12V(2) - 15A

    And this is my setup

    AMD Athlon64 3000+ (939pin)
Asus nVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX Motherboard
    DDR SDRAM 1GB (PC3200/512MB x2)
Seagate 80GB Serial ATA HDD (7200rpm)
    nVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB (PCI-E/DVI/TV-OUT)
    CREATIVE Sound Blaster Live! 24bit

IMPORTANT! I am in japan which means i cant order from Newegg/Tigerdirect etc, i am basically limited to japanese brands as the american brands seem to be uncommon here. I am just wondering if this PSU will be able to run my PC fine. Any thoughts?

You shouldn't have any problems as long as the rails stay stable. That's more than enough power(as far as pure specs go) for any of those parts and pretty much anything else you would want to add.

I wouldn't be so quick to give it a thumbs up... You really should have 18amps on the 12v rail. While that PSU may work, it will definatly be stressing under load with 15 amps. 400watts is plenty, 15 amps however is cutting it a bit close.

When I reciently upgraded my gaming rig, I had enough parts left over to build a second rig. I had a PSU laying around with 15a on the 12v so I decided to use it instead of spending money on a spare machine. The system is almost identical to yours except using a 9800 Pro and 2 hard drives. Under load, the PSU fan spins to full speed within a matter of minutes (thermally controlled fan) and after about an hour of gaming, the air blowing out from the PSU fan is quite warm, SIGNIFICANTLY warmer than any of the other exhaust fans. Now on my main gaming rig, which is a lot more power hungry, i've got a high quality 650 watt enermax, I can be gaming for hours, and the exhasut temps of the PSU are bearly any warmer than the other case fans. Basically what this means is that the smaller PSU is being pushed rather hard.

EDIT: Ahh, well disregard what I said... I failed to notice the dual 12 volt rails... In that case, yes you're most definatly ok!

hehe thanks ramongtp..i had already ordered the PSU while i was reading your msg, so i was starting to stress before i read the edit at the bottom

When you're talking about temperature readings and stuff, is there a program you can use to show you the temp of your PC while you're using it, or do u have to buy a temp meter and install it into the PC ?

    do you have a link?

Most use EverestHome to monitor temps and voltages...

    yeah fluently....
well you cant tell by a picture, but from the design, and the specs, it DOES look OK...
The real test will be setting it up, and watching for fluctuation during use...
you cant necessarily go by the voltage values solely, BUT you can see if they are at least hold solid during use...
