Crazy Random Slowdown - Tech Support Forums

My friend has recently been having some really odd trouble with his computer.
He used to get decent framerates out of games like Battlefield 2 and the COD2 demo set on medium/high settings. But a little while ago the framerates in most of his games dropped drastically. Even after formatting his computer this morning and installing the latest Catalyst drivers, the problem persists.

He just got decent framerates from turning on the Force Direct X7 mode in the COD2 demo, but I'm not totally sure what that means.

He has 2 3200 sticks of 512 megabyte RAM. One made by Nanya and another Apacer Tech. He also has a 128MB AGP 9800pro and an A64 3000+.

I checked the temperatures with Everest and they all seem normal (under 40 degrees celsius). I have no idea what's causing this and I'd really appreciate some help.

Did you check the chipset drivers? That could be a problem, maybe try updating them. And make sure you have directx9c (you probably do since most games won't install without it).

I'm sorry, the chipset drivers? Didn't know those were upgraded regularily. What part of Everest Home dictates what chipset I have?
