Hello, I'm running windows xp with a PCChips motherboard M848LU, it has an integrated sound card being C-media AC97. My problem is basically non-mic bleeding into recording and streaming audio, which is a problem whilst gaming. I use ventrilo for team battles and whatnot, and I have to turn down the audio ingame or not even speak in battle, otherwise I drown them out in sound... I also got latest drivers from the mainboard company, I double checked, and it should be right driver setup, and have tried various volumes in the mixing board; everything else about my audio seems fine, this is the first problem I've had. |

HI Mardini ! Weclome to TechIMO!
Have you made sure that the windows settings have the Microphone level turned down? Go to sounds and multimedia in the control panel, select audio, and change the recording control for the microphone to a lower setting.

do u use push-to-talk?... or does the voice transfer activate automatically when u say something?
if so, use a push to talk button... that will solve ur problem

I did mention it was non-mic, meaning basically I can record audio, and stream to other players with no mic.. I do, however use a mic, but I tested this problem while not using it, and all the players could hear any music or sounds that played through my speakers, I figured maybe this could be hardware/software related; I could not find any settings to change that. I do use push-to-talk, and it has the problem regardless. |

What do you mean by unshielded? and is there a way to fix it, or would I have to get a new sound card installed? |

Some sound adapters have a "mic boost" or "+20dB mic gain" option which amplifies the microphone input greatly. This will also amplify any unwanted background noise or bleed through from other audio outputs, which sounds like what you're experiencing. Try turning it off if you have this option.
Or it could just be a poor audio circuit design as mentioned above. Switching to a decent quality sound card should fix this problem. |

a unshielded connection would allow the EM field from the audio out jack to bleed into the MIC in connection just like if you had attached a wire from sound out to mic in
a shielded connection prevents this from happening due to its design |
