I hope you can help me. I bought a Dell laptop today. Windows XP is installed. I am trying to set up my internet connection and it says ... modem removed- unavailable devise (COM1) ....any ideas what it could be?
Thanks 4 for your replies!

Try reinstalling the modem drivers. Does the modem show up in Device Manager? |

Hmm.... I just noticed you said "Laptop". Does it have an internal modem or an add-in modem? I'm not sure how them things work. |

But i have dial up at the moment....so i am affraid im screwed! That's not a good thing... could I install my windows 2000 and then use that software for my modem? Make sense? I'm getting the feeling that it doesn't have a modem, so installing W2K isn't going to help. If you installed XP, it should have detected a modem during the install. What model of laptop is it? |
