Laptop doesn't see external hard drive

Hi

I know there have been a few other messages similar to this, but I'm asking a slightly different question. I have a Mesh Laptop running windows XP and bought a Gericom external hard drive earlier in the year. This has 2 firewire connections and 1 USB 2 connection. When I purchased this, it worked fine on my laptop. However since then I've moved house and it has sat in a cupboard for a few months until today when I decided that it was time to backup some of my details - only I can't get the computer to recognise it.

I've tried it with the firewire in both of the connections and also with the usb cable in the usb port at the front of my laptop and also the ones at the rear - still doesn't show anywhere.

Can anyone help me.
