My external usb harddrive won't read

I have a Western Digital external usb 2.0 harddrive. And the problem is that before it worked, but then i inserted a usb flash memory in the pc (dell latitude 510) and now yhe flash memory works but not the hard drive. The only thing that happens is that the light is shining and when i want to sfely remove the HD it is registred with it's name and everything, but it can't be read!!!

You don't need to help me anymore. I fixed the problem by changing name on the HD to z: instead of f:

How do you name hard drive? I'm having similar problem.

Go to "MyComputer" right click on "Manage" when the screen comes up click on "Disk Management" under "storage". Click on the drive you want to change the letter for then right click. click on the "change drive letter and paths", follow directions from there.

actually a better way is booting their program and manually altering the target drive dur

And the major difference that would make it "better" would be????

so u dont have to redo the steps over again, because if u put in mutliple usbs it will bump up drive letter
