need to bypass administrator

just got a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop from a friend that doesn't need it anymore. Gave me his user id and password to get into the system, but it doesn't work. Can't contact him now, and can't get into the computer either. Can anyone help? Great computer sitting around when it could be used by my daughter. Help!

You might try this:

On the logon screen, hold CTRL+ALT and press DEL twice
Then as the user, put Administrator
Leave the password blank

Let us know if it works

unfortunately, i don't have an xp disk. tried the CTRL ALT and hitting Delete button twice, didn't work either.

Wait until you can contact your friend, and make sure his password is correct, paying particular attention to upper and lower case.
