| Help! Blue Screens
This is the most nerve wracking problem I have had so far. I have been getting blue screens, and its been happening for quite a while. I was putting up with it for a while, but I'm going mad now. They seem to be totally random. I get them when I'm playing a game or opening my web brower(s) even listening to music. So far I can't seem to make make any connections between the different times I get them.
When my computer reboots after the blue screen, I get the oh so magical Microsoft error reporting thing and I send the error report. It then tells me its a device driver that caused the system to stop, which makes no sense to me. (I wish there was something that could tell me which "driver") I haven't installed any new hardware or system software or any drivers at all. The only drivers that are updated often on my computer are my video card drivers and newer versions don't seem to help with the problem, so I don't think its that.
I have started suspecting that it may be my hard drive, but I don't really know anything about stuff like that. My friend says it could be the problem.
This problem doesn't make total sense because the computer behaves perfect normal, not one little problem, besides when i get the random blue screens.
What could cause these blue screens? |

Well, we really need more info about your computer, the particular BSOD, what you were doing before / after, etc. If you can find out some more info then maybe we'll be able to help.
Like filipino said, check your memory as well as your hard drives and try booting with only vital system components and seeing if the problem persists. |

Well, your soundcard drivers could be causing the problem. I notice Creative drivers can cause a lot of wierd errors. Also, go over all the components in your computer and make sure everything is how it should be. Also, see if you can catch the particular error you're getting in the BSOD. |

I tried to catch the information in the BSOD, but it too flashes quick and then reboots. I have no time to read anything on the screen. |

go to start --> control panel --> system --> advanced --> startup and recovery settings button --> and uncheck automatic restarts under system failure next time you'll be able to read your bsod and get info...it should tell you what driver i believe
/edit
also, right click my computer, go to manage, event viewer, system, and it should have info about the crash....possible including what driver is screwy . |

My money is on the video card driver. Try using the 77.78 version. |

I would recommend turning on your driver verifier, go to start > run and type "verifier", click Next, select "Select driver names from a list", and select all third party drivers or just particularly suspect drivers (such as gfx card drivers) and click finish and restart. If you can't boot, F8 and turn it off by start > run, type "verifier" again and this time select "Delete existing settings". Otherwise, continue computing until you get the BSOD and the verifier should report which driver in particular is causing the issue (look for DRIVER_VERIFIER or something similar in the BSOD) then reinstall that driver or drivers. Hope this helps |
