| Is it known that Daemon tools causes system crashes?
Hi,
It was tonight that I remembered Daemon tools can cause crashes to your computer if you change any part of the hardware having to do with drives. This happened when I tried to install another harddrive and forgot to uninstall it first. What happens is windows crashes and the image gets garbled RIGHT when the new drive is detected in windows. I should've remembered this (happened before).
I saw on daemon tools' website something about no IDE drives can work w/ it...does this tie in w/ my problem? (b/c it does work w/ IDE drives, just as soon as you change, even the slot my dvd-writer is in, it causes crash)
My question is, does alcohol 120% cause this too? If so, what other programs do not cause this? |

well, trial and error but a crash as you are describing is caused by carelessness.
Just disable daemon before deciding on installing physical drives.
I can see just by reading your post how easily this can happen and whether it will with other software, i can only assume so but like i said, trial and error and dont be careless and nothing will happen, nothing bad.
I have 2 HDDs, 3 burners and 2 virtual drives by daemon running on mine and i never have any problems. |

Yea but see I actually knew this and forgot! So it's not good, it should give you some kind of notification so that everyone is aware of it. Like I'm not sure if it says anything in install...but the thing is I odn't even have it starting automatically in windows...but even if it's installed it causes the problem. And it might be causing problems for a lot of people and they don't even know it's Daemon tools doing it (that was me my first time, I almost went mad, and then by chance I think I uninstalled it in safe mode or I configured my hardware to be like it was when it was working w/ daemon tools, and voila)
So does alcohol 120% do the same thing?? Cause the same "bug"?

OMG. I just decided to reinstall Daemon tools once again since I was done w/ that other harddrive. I didin't even install, just opened the installer and was about to hit agree when the monitor goes black and the computer freezes...When I restart...I GET THE SAME DAMN CRASHES AGAIN. I don't even know what to do now since I never even installed it so it's not like I can uninstall it now... |

Sounds like something more than dameon tools, i've installed in on lots of computers and added removed drives all the time and never had one problem. If it crashed before you hit agree it's not dameon tools. (or else you got it from somewhere less than reliable, make sure you got it from it's official site http://www.daemon-tools.cc/ )
Get 120% trial and check it out, it's a great program, but i dont think it'll solve your crashes. |

If it's not daemon tools then how come it went away when I uninstalled it last time, and it happened again right when I was opening the installer? Something is fishy, I know. |

I had the same problem a few months ago and it was centered around the sptd or something like that in the system32 folder that loads when windows is starting, unless you in safemode ofcoarse. No problems with alcohol 120%. You can see the file that messes you up if you boot up with command prompt and watch which file it gets to when the crash happens. |

Something is fishy, I know. | I don't the problem lies with Daemon Tools solely. Something in your current configuration is causing the conflict. I use DT very often and have done exactly what you said is causing a problem without any negative results. Maybe you should checkout the f orums on the DT site, maybe they explain further.

I think in the three years from the original post he figured it out ... |
