Screen problem light dark on Compaq nc6000

I have an NC6000 laptop on which the screen backlight is on full with the AC power adapter disconnected, but when the AC adapter is plugged in, the screen goes dim. I could understand it if it was the other way around (power saving) but I can't find any settings in Win2k or BIOS to control this. Any ideas?

You can control this in the BIOS on most laptops, or by holding the function button and the brightness button (usually over the arrow keys).

Ah-ha. How stupid do I Feel! Guess I didn't know that the settings would be different on and off the AC power. Cheers for a push in the right direction - it was the free booze party I went to last night clouding my brain!
