i can't install winxp on my laptop. Help please!!

I am new in the forum and i have to say you guys know a lot!
Can anybody help me with my problem that; after formatting my Toshiba P25-S477 machine i can't install winxp. CD rom works fine until in the setup it say winxp setup is initializing in the setup menu. I tried to install win 98 same thing happened. What is the problem? Why does it freeze right at that moment. It is really annoying! I need some help!

Do you maybe have a bad CD drive? I had the same issue and it turned out to be a bad DVD-RW drive. You could try another machine to ensure the disc is good (don't actually install it on the other machine, just make sure it boots). You could try an external CD drive that's bootable. Does WinXP give any specific errors?

cd rom works until some point then freezes. after i choose boot with cd rom drive it starts loading some various software which are written in the below of the page in a way you can't read.(typical procedure) Finally on the same place tle loadig finishes and it says something like (i am not sure) "winxp setup is initializing". then the screen vanishes(just black empty dos screen) and procedure freezes there. I think you may be right on that my cd rom is not working. I will try and post back. Thanks LosingTheFight. I am still open to new ideas! If anything, inform me!
