windows explorer cd burning

hey all
i was trying to download a microsoft update for the xbox 360 and it said to burn it with windows explorer burning software. I downloaded the file succesfully, but every time i try to burn it, it automatically fails. " there was an error in the writing process, the disc you have attempted to write to may no longer be usable". i am burning with a a pretty nice sony dvd burner, and this isnt working? ive been using brand new out of the box Memorex cd-rs. they are working for everything else except this

when i tried burning just normal mp3's in data format with Windows Explorer burning software, it also failed.
i also tried with nero, nero says it burned, but the burner is showing no activity and is just idle, and nothing is written to the cd

please help me, so i can begin to burn my mp3's and cd's

In Nero, it sounds like you have the Simulation box checked. What that does is it simulates a burn testing the file and media. In the New Compilation window, click on the Burn tab and uncheck the Simulation box. This should let you just burn the selected files instead of running the test burn first.

ok, i tried it. it still isnt burning

could someone tell me what is wrong with my Windows Explorer Burning Software? that is what Microsoft said to use

i usually used it on another comp. but i sold that one,
please help me get it up and running?
