Computer won't boot up!

Hi, and thanks for reading. I'm at a serious problem, and it's deeply saddening. But here's some backgroud info...I carry my comp back and forth from a friends house on the weekends occasionally. This time, I brought it back, and I started hooking things back up...I turned on the computer before I put the mouse and keyboard plugged in the back. Thus, hoping I could do it in time and it read them, I was mistakenly disappointed. I'm running Windows XP, so the "Welcome" screen with my account name showed. Yet the mouse nor keyboard would work, so expectedly, I held the button in for 10 seconds, and it shut off. It's an E-machines by the way...so when I started the computer back up, it showed the E-machines logo and what not...then went to the prompt screen that says "we are sorry for the inconvieniance....blah...blah...blah...Safe mode, Safe mode with Networking, Safe mode with Prompt, Start windows with last know working config, or just start windows. NOTHING works, the Safe modes show a few things pop up below the large message...then my comp restarts, e-machines, and same message. Last know config...shows the Windows XP loading bar...loads a bit, then the screen goes black and you expect to see the Welcome screen...nope...it restarts. Doing Start Windows...same thing, shows XP loading bar...expect the welcome screen...nope, restarts. My computer is in a continuous vertex of restarting doom, and it's making me angry. I can't figure out what's wrong at all. If anyone has had this problem before, or knows exactly how to fix it, or a mixture of both...please...please inform me as soon as possible. I will be checking this forum oftenly tonight and tomorrow, and so forth till I figure out what's wrong. Thanks again all for reading.

This may sound silly, but did the computer take a blow, like being dropped?

Will the computer stay running in BIOS?

How about trying to create an XP boot disk. Follow this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;305595 and see if you can get it to boot.

Nah, it hasn't tooken any damage, and yes it will stay running in BIOS, but that's about it. It's been doing some different now...after the E-machines screen, it goes to a black screen with a _ blinking in the top left hand corner...and then just blinks...can't CTRL+ALT+DELETE it or anything...just have to turn it off. And I can't make a boot disk, I don't have a floppy or a disc at that. :\ The XP disks are around here somewhere...but I don't think I need to resort to those to get this fix...should only be a technical error...but I can't figure it out.

Your start-up could be damaged. You could try doing a repair installation with the XP disk. I've done it a few times and works fine. All data intact.

EDIT: You will have to re-register the copy of XP, though.

Open your pc remove all pci cards and start the pc normally see if it works if it does then place the pci cards one by one back in shuting down and restarting your pc each time the problem as you discribe it is a driver problem which accurs when a pci card is moved just a bit from its place and the system trys to load the drivers it crushes with that way you can find out which pci is damaged.(but like i said it has probably moved from its place since you say you didnt drop it)
If this is not a pci problem then place the windows cd rom which was ariginally used to install windows on your system and boot from cd-rom when it stops loading press enter to install windows DONT press repair this thing doesnt do shit on the next messege pres F8=i agree to the terms as soon as you press f8 if the cd rom you inserted is the one you install the windows or is the same version you will come up with a screen saying "You already have a previus windows installed on your pc do you want to repair the windows?" here is where you press R to repair the windows it will fix any driver and dll + system faults.
But since this hapend during the transfer just remove all cards from your pc and reinstall them it will work.
(dont forget to strart the pc with no cards at all on the first time to make sure its a moved or damaged pci card)
