It might help if you just write down the error message and post it. Spelling is important.

Well, you could always try deleting normal.dot. Seems to fix just about every other Word problem.

It almost sounds like a virus or a problem with a mal-ware macros looking for the file.
Can you use a text editor to open the file, besides microsoft office word to see what the actual content of the file is?
Maybe you could use a virus scanner etc to look for any malware object.

Does the file allow you to delete it?

Search for all instances of the file normal.dot and delete them. When you start Word again, it will recreate the file. You may lose some custom settings.
