Hardware diagnostic software

Does anyone know where I can find a hardware diagnostic program (preferable free). It needs to work on sata drives.

I've got an AMD 4000+ ,2gb ddr400, A8N-E, maxtor dm+10 250gb sata150. The trouble is it freezes booting into win xp pro sp2. This only seems to happen after i've loaded the mb nvidia drivers. Im thinking maybe the hd has some bad sectors or the mb is screwed. Not really sure so I want to run a full diagnostics.

Been there already, it doesn't support sata on nforce 4 (typical).
