new S-ATA HD, need some help.

Hi all,

I got a DFI lanparty nforce 4 ultra D mobo, my buddy is trading me a new 80GB serial ata HD, I want to swap this one with the current HD I have in now which is just a 40GB ATA/IDE HD, should I have any problems doing this?

The reason I asked is I just installed this same new HD in my friends computer, except he has a Gigabyte mobo, except it wouldn't detect at all...so I tried another 60gb ATA/IDE HD I had extra and put it in his computer and all works good...except in BIOS he's got IDE 0 (master, slave) and IDE 1 (master, slave), but his dvd rom drive in BIOS says it's IDE 1 master, and the 60gb ata HD is IDE 1 Slave...I tried plugging the IDE ribbons different ways, but the HD would never be IDE 0 master?

I just hope the 80GB sata HD will work in my PC, I'm just wondering if there's anything I need to do or will my mobo detect the sata HD just like all my computers I've built have detected IDE HD no problem, thanks.

sounds like you have them jumped wrong. if you have the dvd on the same cable then it needs to be set to slave with the hd master. i actually just fixed this problem. i have my ide set to cable select pludded in ide1 then my dvdr and cdrw on one ribbon set to primary and slave on ide2. and my sata is on as c: but i boot up from my e: (these are settings in my bios)
which is where you will need to enable your sata manually. at least i did on a msi neo4
i also have RAID disabled and sata1/4 enabled. all works good.

actually i am looking for some help, i would like to boot up from my sata but i don't know how to image my hd over. i really don't want to go through the updates again with a clean install. its so aggrevating. any suggestions?
