Full Capacity Not Recognised

I bought a new Maxtor 250 GB hard drive but it only recognises 128 GBs. I tried a fix sugguested on the offical site; update to Service Pack 2 and apply a a patch enblading 48- bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) for ATAPI drives, yet to avail. Any suggestions on how to fix this? My drive is just a standard IDE one.

Also, if I parition it now will I still be able to regain my other 122 GBs and if so, which parition will it go into? The main one? Thank for any help.

HI Robbi,

It sounds like you need to update your motherboard bios. You can get an updated bios from your motherboard manufacturer. Be sure you get the correct one or you might disable the motherboard.

Have you tried running the utility from Maxtor? http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...&downloadID=58 download Maxblast and give that a try.

Great, thanks! I'll try that now.

Hmm.....I dunno if I'll attempt updating my motherboard. I know it's pretty risky and it's a last resort but if I can't otherwise then I'll try.....

Ok, I think the program wants me to reformat my drive using "its" method, which means reinstalling Windows and downloading updates, which means doing again what I did two hours ago...

Not to be smart, if you only did this two hours ago, what do you have to lose except a little time?

I'm looking for other solutions in the meantime!

I hate doing it!! I've done it 30 or 40 times, it's sickening!! Lol, yeah I'm just being lazy. Hmm....I create another parition out of unallocated space which gave me another 106 GB, leaving me missing only 30 GB.......where could they be??

Thanks, but it still doesn't exactly answer my question.........I installed Service Pack TWO, should I install One, or does 2 include 1?
