Hello all and Merry Christmas
I'm having some problems with uninstalling programs on Windows XP, when I uninstall a program it runs its normal course but afterwards its still there!, the program still exists in my start menu and in add/remove programs. This happens with any programs I install and if I try to run uninstall again it no longer works.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks |

I think Alistair is saying that there are 'orphaned' items left behind after uninstalling a program.
Ali - When did this start? Do you have a normal install of XP - meaning is it on the C: drive and in the normal Windows directory? Have you had any other issues? There is a registry entry that leaves the program in Add/Remove programs and it sounds like that registry entry is not being removed after your uninstall. As far as the icons, do you move the icons after the installation of the program? Uninstalling will search for the default location of those icons. If it cannot find them at the default location, it will not search elsewhere.
Are the program's folder and files actually removed?

I've had that happen before, but not to all the programs. You usually get a message that Windows can't find the uninstall info. Sometimes you can fix it by installing the program again, then uninstalling it.

I think the problem started a few weeks ago, unfortunatley I cant remeber what I might have done back then. In response to bwcc's questions, no the icons arent moved after installation and yep the programs files are still there after "uninstalling". |
