Video capturing and editing often places demands on system resources where temps have
to be monitored regularly. Software glitches are also causes for lockups when capturing and
video playback is being performed. Extensive use of video capturing also places stresses on
installed memory. From spending a few years with video capturing and editing softwares a
good look at the above can often be the most helpful in finding a solution.
Lockups in Windows are not limited to one version. Occasionally the softwares used have
to be removed and reinstalled in order to keep the drivers fresh. Running a good memory
tester periodically is also advised if you intend to regularly run capturing devices like pci slot
cards, usb capture devices as well, and playback hangs due to driver conflicts can also be a
factor in seeing system locks. The more you capture video to disk the more you have to plan
on keeping the drives used from becoming fragmented due to the large sizes of video files.
At this end pci slot video capture devices will run for up to three hours on one capture for
security dvds. At other times video captures and edits are performed for public access cable
tv production on request. Occasionally expect a lock. That will occur if your system is more
or less dedicated for this type of use. Do you have adequate or extra cooling methods used
on this system? Depending on the draw on power levels by installed devices, power supply
issues can come up if the demand exceeds certain levels due to the hardware installed. If
you are using a stock model cpu heat sink/fan combination you may want to look into what
the serious devout gamers use while not investing a small fortune. Additional case fans can
also prove an asset in reducing the heat buildup from a taxed system. |
