problem with hardware
I have a phillips cd recorder labled as secondary master, and a 52x cd rom labled as secondary slave. I have a 20 gig maxtor hard drive as my primary master, and nothing used for Primary slave. Ive noticed that my crd wont read cd's whenI put them in.. the green light flashes a few times then thats it... nothin. My cd rom also will read some of the files but not all and tends to lock up the computer. I have purchased a brand new cd rw rewriter but have not installed it yet. should it be set at Primary slave or secondary something or other, and if I install this, can I get rid of the 52x cd rom..? i dont need both do I? thanks

Set the new burner as secondary master...you don't need two optical drives installed unless you plan on doing a lot of disc-disc burning. You can still do that with one optical drive (your burner), just takes a little longer. Just curious, do either of your current drives work alone as secondary master? Have you double checked your jumper settings? Tried CS for both instead of setting master/slave? It sounds like the drive that won't read CDs at all has the jumper set incorrectly. Does it show up in your device manager?
