just recently noticed my hdd led staying lit. i wasn't hearing the sound when the system reads or writes to the hdd, so i downloaded Hard Drive Indicator and O&O Drive Led to see if they indicate disk activity. when ever i access the hdd the programs indicate disk activity but hdd led on case is constantly on. this only happens when windows is running. if i boot from floppy the hdd led operates normally, off when no activity, on when there is. i've gone over everything thats running on my pc that would cause the hdd to be constantly accessed. ive found no programs or services that would cause this(unless im overlooking em). done scans for viruses, adware and spy, none found. anybody got a clue to this? |

Do you have indexing enabled? If you have lots of files and add and change files often, the indexing can run a lot of the time. It is pretty useless, so disable it. Another possibility is a virus, worm etc. Do a thorough scan with your best tool. Try the M$ malware remover too.

indexing is disabled, done scans for viruses, adware and spy, none found. may reset the bios later and see what that does.

I have the same problem in one of my older boxes. I never could figure it out... and this was even from a clean install! Other than this quirk, the computer operates just fine, so I never bothered to dig deeper into it.

Last time this happened my slave drive died on me. Once I took the slave out the HDD light went back to normal.

well, i fixed it. i had two optical drives, one new dvd r/rw and an older cd-rom. i unplugged the older drive and now the led acts like it's suppose to. i think the older drive was going bad. |
