IE keeps getting iexplore.exe error and closing

My computer is a brand new Gateway AMD 64 X2, XP Media Center Edition. I have a DSL router that seems to be working fine, but whenever I'm on Internet Explorer I get a message that iexplore has encountered an error and needs to close. This does not happen constantly, but about every 10 minutes or so. When I click the link for details, this is what comes up:

AppName: iexplore.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180
ModName: comctl32.dll
ModVer: 5.82.2900.2180
Offset: 0001d06e

I installed all of the updates from Microsoft the day I got my computer and checked again after getting the error several times and there are no new ones. I have searched Microsoft, this forum, and Google and haven't been able to find any posts describing this error. Does anybody know what I need to do to fix it? I tried to be sure I gave all of the necessary information, but I apologize in advance if I forgot anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Either IE is corrupt or you have a spyware infection. Neither of which should be occuring on a 'new' computer.... Contact your pc vendor before the warranty expires...
You can get around the issue by using a different web browser like firefox, opera, maxthon (all free).
