| USB Device not recognised! USB Device not recognised. Help Please
My trusty thumb drive is no longer recognized - in fact none of the 3 memory sticks I use work on my computer although all three work on other machines.
I have a card reader with a front USB port that I usually use and this recognizes another mouse. My printer works fine as does my regular mouse and keyboard.
I have another 2 front ports neither of which appear to recognize other devices.
The message that appears when I attempt to connect the drive reads in part:
"USB Device not recognised
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. "
Can anyone please help.
Thank you in anticipation

| USB device not recognized: Thanks Steve
Thanks for your welcome and links, Steve. I'll follow them up.
I read on another site a tip that I tried without success that advised switching off the power for 2 minutes before rebooting.
A net search shows that this problem is not uncommon. I would be interested in advice from anybody who has overcome a similar problem
Incidentally my machine has the following attributes for what it's worth:

| USB Device not recognized - Solution Further to my last post, I suddenly realized that in a no-brainwave, I had switched off the wrong power switch so tried again the suggestion to switch off power for about 3 minutes and eureka! It worked! This saved me from dabbling with the Registry as suggested by Microsoft in Steve's last hyperlink above.
I'm not sure why this works, but it does!
Thanks again Steve. |

Are you plugging your usb device in the same port ;as where you installed the software for the device.
I have a Zen Touch that I was having a usb device not known. I switched the usb plug to my front usb port and the problem went away.

Not really. Although it had an installation disk my generic USB flash drive was immediately recognized so the disk was not needed. Anyway when I checked it later, I found that the installation was targeted at Win98 or somesuch earlier OS.
Good luck

Please start your own thread.
It's a good idea to install Google Toolbar. It has a free spell-checker. Your spelling is so bad that it's really hard to tell what you're saying.
