| Mobo bios video card error
I got an old slot A gateway select that is missing part and decided to fix it for fun and give it to my mom or something, anyway when the computer starts it shows the gateway screen and then goes to post showing the processor speed and checks the ram then spits out a beep code that I belive to be bad video card and after words shows what looks like artifacts, once I got it to start loading windows somehow and only 1/3 of the loading screen showed so I knocked off the power im using the video card that came which I tested in my pc as well as a buds video card with the same result, I think theres something wrong with the agp slot or possibly the bios, any ideas? |

Ya I thought of that but dont have any, I am just not sure why it doesnt work. It starts up with video before it dies and there is no visable damage to the agp slot. I will just try and find a different mobo, thanks for the response. |

Couple of daft questions for you but here goes.
Is the gfx card running a supported voltage and agp speed?
Did you try reseting the cmos and/or flashing the bios? The reason for asking is because a mate of mine had a card that his mobo wouldn't see past post untill he updated his mobo's bios. |

I think this video card is the one that came for it but I cannot be certin, the older agp cards that use different voltage are (all?) shaped differently making it extremely hard to use the wrong type I belive. I have cleared the cmos before but that didnt help and I was planning to flash the bios next seeing how slot A mobos are a little hard to come by now. I belive that some older gateway products only accept gateway parts could the fact that im using a non-gateway ram and HD be causing this. My friends old IBM aptiva refuses to start unless the name of the hard drive is Aptiva... |

sorry didnt see agp speed, the motherboard usually negotiates with the video card for the highest possible speed, although I have had a old agp 4x mobo before that acted similar but to a smaller degree with an newer 8x card and I was forced to run the card at the slowest mode 1x or 2x cant remember. Unfortunately I have no way of changing the speed without atleast getting into the bios or os. Thanks for the post |

I tryed flashing the bios but need help, since I cant use the flash utility I used the AMIBOOT.ROM method and got nothing and tryed Ctrl + Home too. Although this motherboard just might not like the floppy drives im using. |
