CPU Toast

Gentlemen,

I think I messed up big time, what do you think?

I tried to replace an old mobo last night.
When I got everything together I tried to boot.
Machine started and immediately stopped.
Hmmm, thats odd......
Checked the connections and tried again, same relsult except this time with a definate burning smell.
uh-oh, this aint good at all.........
Took everything apart and found I had installed the CPU heatsink backwards
D'oh.......
Fixed it and now machine will start and fans will run but it wont post, not even a beep.
Put everything back in the old board, which was posting and no post.

In your opinion is the CPU toast.
It is a 1.8 AMD ath

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Most likely the CPU is fried. Have you inspected the CPU die for burn marks>?

You probably fried the CPU, and maybe the motherboard. Inspect for burn marks.
