hard drive detect

I have a Pentium III 450 Mhz 256 Mg of RAM and I bought a new 80 gig hard drive and the computer doesn't detect it.

Is it because the hard drive is too large?. Do I have to upgrade the BIOS?

When I turn on the computer here is what I see.

Award Modular BIOS V4.60 PGMA
AX6BC R2.36 May17-1999

Germain, if you would provide the make/model of your system and how you set up the drive (master, slave, cable select), that would help a lot.

Most P3 systems should be able to handle an 80 gig drive.

It's a computer that has no brand name, I suppose it's been built up with all kinds of parts. It's an Intel processor. I tried it as Primary Master, and Primary Slave and it didn't work. Then I tried it on a more recent computer as a Primary slave and it's working fine. While I had it on the more recent computer, I partitioned it 50/50 thinking it might help, but it didn't.

What's your objective? Is this going to be a primary or second drive?
