| EMachine Keeps going into Sleep/Standby
Hi there,
This morning when trying to boot the EMachine we had a really difficult time. It was like it was in Standby. We finally got it working only to have it just shut down out of the blue into Standby again like 4 or 5 times today. The only way to get it back on is to Shut off the power strip and reboot it.
Any suggestions?
Thx,
Stevie |

What is the model of your emachines, and have you added anything to it like a new graphics card? |

Any chance you have an extra power supply that you could try in it? eMachines are notorious for having crappy power supplies.

I would check out the cpu heatsink and fan assembly for clogged fins and the cpu is not getting any cooling. |

Ugh Today it won't even turn on.

Do you mean like an extra cord to plug it in with?
We are going to pull the casing off today and use the canned air to blow it and clean it to see if that helps.
This is very fustrating.
Thanks

Sounds to me like a bad power supply...but it could be a few things...
First, dust it out...even though I am sure temps are not your problem...since its not turning on at all...but its always good to keep it clean.
Second, while your in there, check for bad caps
Third, just make sure nothing is loose...
Fourth, I would reset your CMOS...to do that, unplug your pc, then take out the battery that is on the motherboard for about 30 seconds...put it back in, and then try turning your pc on again...
Lastly...if nothing else was found bad, you will probably have to buy a new power supply to put in there...its about $35 for a good one(I will find you one if you need it). |
