TOSHIBA CD/DVDW SD-R5372 won't burn audio

Hello everyone. (SORRY FOR LONG POST IN ADVANCE)

I have this prob that has been bugging me for a while now and I finally have time to address it. I have the above-mentioned dvd-rw drive and it used to work perfectly on all types of discs and formats. A while back it stopped burning audio CD's (CDR/CDRW)... data still burns fine (I think) and so do DVD's.

I'm not sure if the two are related, but I upgraded from 512 RAM to 1.5gb around the same time the problems started. I tried taking out the new memory but the problem persisted. 

Sometimes, if I uninstall the drive, unhook the power from it and redetect it, I am able to burn 1 song on a cd-rw. I use Nero 6 and I've tried reinstalling that as well. Some people said I have a bad drive, but it's barely a year old and I treated it very well so I would like to know if anyone has any ideas on this. Thanks in advance.

**usually nero just hangs at 5% complete with the top buffer bar thingy (used read buffer) at 100% and the bottom little bar at 0% (when it burned successfuly in the past, it was 96-98% full, but it never fills up)!!!** it just says "ready" and Lead-in on the bottom... i've tried pullng power supply cable in and out and redetecting to no avail.

I use windows xp sp2, amd xp1800 processor, 1.5gb ram. gigabyte g7 something mb...

i saved a log that gave me a burn error failed message. i will post and maybe someone that knows about these things can interpret. thanks

And have you tried any other programs to burn Audio CDs aside from Nero?

If so, then it's most likely a faulty drive. If the other program worked, then you'd know that it was just nero. Test that out there, and see how things go... Then report back.

Perhaps, you just need to update your firmware for the drive. Check Toshiba's website for that.

But seriously... Why Mariah Carey? haha. Kidding. You're allowed to listen to whatever pleases you.
