Random Memory errors
Heyguys i have a MAJOR problem, everything in my dell dimension 9100 was working fine yesterday and today but i went in and put a pci wireless card(dlink) in and now im getting random memory errors (BSOD) when windows boots. also my cdrom drive sometimes does not get detected at post although it works when in windows (so long as i dont get the memory error) what could be the problem i only am using 4 of my 5 pci slots. ive got a radeon x600 with hyperchannel memory, a modem, a tv tuner and now the wireles card. could this be a heating issue? if so what could i do on a system as propriatary as dell?

I could be an IRQ conflict due to too many devices or improper assignments. Strip it down to the bare essentials (mobo, CPU, RAM, video, mouse/keyboard) and troubleshoot from there.
If it doesn't boot after that, consider trying one memory stick at a time (if applicable), or totally different RAM. If it still doesn't boot after that, it could be corrupted critical data on your hard drive, which chkdsk or your drive's brand's utility program may be able to fix.Last edited by Smidley; May 5th, 2006 at 01:16 AM.

hey guys,
ok ok i know its been a while i been busy. i ran memtest from linux and it found no errors, not 1. also i tried removing everything and putting stuff back in one at a time and the system is fine until i put the dlink card in. i also checked the irq setting and its not conflicting with anything else. I also noticed in regards to the cdrom not being recognized during post that that only happens when the unit has been on a while, i.e. ill have it on for 20-30 minutes do a soft reboot and then it wont recognize it but if i turn the unit off and wait ~10 minutes and then turn it on it recognizes it. weird.
