| Constant restarting / freezing BSOD
ok guys, first my specs,
athlon Xp2700+
Radeon 9800pro
Asrock K7S41 mobo
Maxtor 9 seriers 120gb 8mb cache HDD
1gb ram (2 x 512mb) DDR3200
LG DVD ReWriter.
650W Power Supply :
+3.3V = 30A
+12V = 25A
+5V = 45A
& now here is my story,
last night during playing a game, my com restarted (everythings been fine apart from random restarts lately. please see this thread for that. restarts under load!
, i noticed that the temp (checked via bios) was 67c of the cpu. mobo was about 50c, i took out my HSF again, and applied new paste etc, connected all back up etc. and when my com was getting to the welcome screen it was just either freezing and/or rebooting.
so i tryed deleating the partition etc, formatting, then reinstalling windows (which i cant now do on this com because of the freezing). and basically it just keeps either freezing and/or rebooting. im getting BSOD and errors such as
"A fatal exception 00 has occured at 0028:f79b2e43. the current application will be terminated."
also:
"a exception 0E 0028:8100CAB2 in VxD--- This was called from 0028:C1896550 in VxD"
To try and isolate what ever this is i have tryed:
using 1 stick of ram per time,
different optical drives,
The HDD in another computer and installing windows, (worked so thats the HDD basically NOT the problem)
Other HDD's in this Com. (the problem is isolated to this com cause the other hdd get the same prob from this com)
Another IDE cable.
Tryed another PSU in my com,
My mobo has built in OnBoard Video, so i tryed taking out my gfx card.
Cleared the CMOS.
Having the side case off and having a big fan blowing directly at the mobo.
i cant think of anything to try, i have only had this mobo for 2 months, and i think the mobo must be the problem.
any one know what those errors are? or any thing to try? or anything at all.
Nothing is OC'd. all voltages etc are on the right settings, so dunno what else it could be...

You need to find some software than monitors CPU temp on screen, and you need some Distrubuted Computing software, like Folding at Home to stress the CPU.
Set up the temperature monitor and watch it as the application runs. As the temp rises do you crash? If so, it's temperature. If not, then test your memory using one stick (make sure it's in the correct slot).
Try going back to an older video driver. ATI 9800 can be flakey - I'm running the one from the orginal disk!
BTW, VxD is a virtual device driver that is created by Windoze to manage the operating system. You have some kind of a hardware issue.

thanks, but i cant even manage to get windows to install properly without it crashing. so theres that idea out the window. but even with the HUGE fan blasting it with air i get this problem, so i dont think its so much as a temp prob, you think i may have just got a dodgey mobo? |

It could be mobo, but I bet it's memory... Have you tried the one stick idea yet? |

Can you go into CMOS and set it to "fail safe" of something like it ? And make sure ECC isn't checked unless you have ECC memory.
In fact, reset the CMOS then go in and make your changes.
NOTE: The default vcore is 1.65v

Have you run memtest86? http://www.memtest.org/
What brand of RAM?
Running XP full install or upgrade form 98 or ME?
What brand PSU you running? What brand did you switch it to during swap?
Have you tried re-seating heat sink?

hi guys, well ive seemed to of fixed it, so far so good lol.
basically after about 15 straight hours of trying to fix this, its basically ended up that the problem was my front usb ports, i must not of connected them right or something, so ill try fix them soon while i enjoy this current stability.
so any one aware of how exactly the front usb ports affected me in this way? its been a major pain in the arse all of this, and the front usb ports make life alot easier for me for my ipod etc. |
