| PLEASE READ: SUPER CRAZY PC
Im not really posting this topic to look for advice, only really just to share the craziness of this super crazy pc i have- although, if anyone possibly could figure out what was up, then that would be great.
first off, the parts for this pc were purchased from a pc warehouse, and put together by myself. i had a second system with identical parts, purchased as well.. this other system had no problems..
the system in question, on the other hand, was a problem since conception.
Installation of Win XP was virtually impossible. i used different copies, and changed every component inside that was able to be switched out- ram, ide cables, cd rom drives, psu...
one day, after many many moons, i tried to get it up and running again. somehow, i got the installation to make it past the portion it always stopped at-
where windows is copying files, before the actual installation process.. it would always stop on some file that it couldnt copy, making installation unable to continue.
this is where it gets really nuts. after realizing i had finally beat the system, overjoyed, i restarted to give it a new go..
after it posted, it stopped, saying there was a problem with some /windows/system32 file (the file had a weird extension, i cant remember, as im in a different location than this hell PC) that had become damaged or what not.
frustrated.. i began just.. i dunno.. fooling around, and this is what happened.. i got it working--- by using a harddrive that was the XP installed master drive from this Hell Pc's identical mobo that i had from the past--- following me...
even weirder- the already XP installed drive from the past was on the slave end of the ide ribbon- set as a slave drive, and was partitioned into 5 partitions...
the drive i was trying to install to and set up- the actual master drive, according to the IDE ribbon settings- is drive M: in windows!!!!
does anybody follow me, thus far????
so, basically, im able to use an OS install from the past, i had setup up on a different pc, on this hell system. i keep callin it the hell system becuz- its all nuts..
most users should be aware of what happens when u try to place a drive in a different pc, thinking the OS will work on the foreign mobo.. you get a NTLDR MISSING ERROR... none such error, this time.. only a working system..
until i started noticing random shutdowns.. i know for a fact, the PSU and RAM have NO problems, as they were tested prior to use.....
then last night.. applications started closing.. and wouldnt open again..
the pc would then shut down..
next thing i know, my whole desktop goes super nuts- every shortcut on the desktop lost its icon, changed to the default windows icon, and the name of every shorcut was followed by the .INK extension.....
pressing ctrl-alt-del to see whats goin on in my processes.. the only ones shown are the ones ran under my user.. and maybe 2 other system processes...
now, at first, im thinkin im gonna start having that LSASS.exe problem, becuz another time, none of the processes shown had a user name, at all...
the lsass.exe problem has something to do with user identification and what not, and this is what happens prior to that problem shutting you down..
thing is, it lets you know its shutting you down..
this just shuts down..
so, upon restarts, shutdowns, and what nots, im able to get maybe 1 minute of computer use, before whatever application i opened first, shuts down, gives me an error message, and my pc just zaps out.
super angry, i ended up breaking the doorknob handle right off my door. get cussed out by my brother cuz of the security deposit.. go to sleep...
and wake up to a functioning pc.....
or until next time???
more to come, later, guys.
have fun pickin that apart.
btw- the pc is spyware/adaware/antivir proctected.

Check for bad caps? RMA the motherboard(sounds like not an option, right?) Minimal build with known good components is a way to check. Still having problems. change out power supply as last hope? All I can think of. Good luck |

Since you already changed out most of the hardware, might want to look at the PSU or it could be a faulty mobo. Had a pc not too long ago do basically the same thing. I changed out everything except mobo. Finally came to the conclusion that the mobo was crapping out. Went and bought me another (used P2 333) mobo, slapped it in and everthing worked. |

im actually home, using this hell computer, now.
as of now, its running good.
like i said, every known component has been switched out, and already tested to work correctly..
i think if its not the mobo... it could be the cpu..
reason thinking, it may be cuz the pc has been running a while, and possibly overheating.... |

if you have an identical system it's time to test the mobo and proc. Either that or take it to a local shop and ask them to test the 2...they should do it for like 20 bucks! |

It is also likely that your motherboard has built in antivirus protection. Its possible that the Anti virus solution that came with your motherboard could be preventing the installation. You might want to try turning off that feature in bios.
Also, make sure your memory is not clocked higher than it should be, and make sure your installation cd is mint condition.
Check your motherboards capacitors, as stated earlier, as well as your powersupply. Also, try downclocking your processor and ram and see if that allows you to install.
Also, you might want to try pulling out the hard drive thats in the HELL Box, and putting it in another, do the first install part where windows copies files onto the drive. Then as soon as it asks to reboot, pull the hard drive out (After power off) then pop it in the new system, this should get you past the initial file copy.
Hope this helps

as of now, both systems i have, includin the Hell one, are gone to crap.
ive switched processors and ram..
used at least 5 different copies of XP
experienced random shutdowns...
initial files copied, then a critical error during the actual install process, where devices and such are installed..
oh, and for some reason, at POST, both mobos tell me my processor is clocked at 900 mhz, when both are and have always been 1200.
weird...
ill get this eventually.
at least linux live cds work well on both...... |

If your CD drive is working, then maybe ALL of your hard drives just happen to be bad. Your IDE 0 connection on the motherboard could also be faulty; or your IDE Controller...
