The NTVDM CPU and BMUSA

Everytime i log onto my windows (we have four other users on the computer, we run Windows XP) I get about sometimes 1, or 70 windows without the usual XP style, and have bmusa.exe labeled on them. Then another window comes up giving me the message:

C:\Windows\system32\rvrys.exe
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS: 0557 IP: 8b22 OP: 63 61 6e 20 62 Choose Close to terminate the application

I have the option to close or ignore.
I usually end up having a click race with my desktop trying to close them all, and im not sure why it is popping up. My McAfee virusscan On-access scan pops up and lists BMUSA, and rvrys labeling them as trojans, but it wont let me delete, clean, or move the file. I run ad-aware, and im not sure as to what to do.

I got fed up with it today, because i came back to my computer, and the desktop font, etc. was magnified, and using 4 bit color. and i have no idea how it got that way. Im not exactly too smart when it comes to computers, but i can follow instructions and understand to a certain point.

I would take the drive out, hook it up to another computer (with ABSOLUTELY up to date virus definitions), and run a full virus scan on it. When it is hooked to another computer you do not have the problem of being unable to access files that are locked by the OS or issues arising from the viruses that are active when the machine is booted with that drive.

You can also run your anti virus in Safe Mode if you can and see if there's anything lurking in the dark.

Stinger from McAfee is a good tool that you can use also to scan your computer, saved me a lot of trouble more than once
