| Computer restarts at windows loading screen
My friends sony vaio has a problem.
Problem: the computer boots to a screen such as the one shown below
Screen Shot:
Now you can select any one of these options and I have tried them all, and all that will happen is that the computer will make it to the windows xp loading screen and then it just reboots to the screen shown above. It will do this over and over to no avail. I figured that some how the windows files got corrupted and decided to try and recover windows.
When I reached the select windows install destination screen some thing did not look right.
Screen shot:
I don't understand what is wrong with it or how this happened. Any direction you could give in understanding and solving this problem would be apprieciated.
-Thank YOU |

I believe that in some Sony Vaio's computers the drive could be a Seagate. Have you test it with their diagnostic utility to see if the drive is failing or have you done any test on it....
You can try putting this drive in a Slave position in another computer and try to see if it's working so at least you can backup the data hoping that if you're using their recovery disk you won't have any problems to reinstall the OS.
If you get this message: Disk Access:Sense Operation Failed forget it, even Sony tech support are clueless about this one, you will need to use a copy of the OS, not the recovery disk but you can use their Application disk to reinstall the drivers after the OS is install.
Good Luck |

| RESTART ON WINDOWS XP LOADING SCREEN
I don't have a Sony Vaio, but I'm having the exact same problem. I have an AMD Athalon 2600+. Running Windows XP. 1 512 and 1 256 sticks of DDR RAM.
I tried the 512 and the 256 separately, and got the same response.
Bought new RAM and got the same response.
I have had my computer for 2 years. I've never really had many problems with it, aside from my video card overheating now and again and shutting off the computer. I use it mostly for gaming. Could a video card have anything to do with anything? Radeon 9200 128mb. Just throwing that out there.
This sucks bad. Start, you stupid computer. |

Would either of these PCs have a Memory Reader?

So I took my PC to the tech guy at my dad's office.
He said that the CD ROM drive was bad and that it corrupted my hard drive.
I'm not sure if he is right or not. It sounds like a lot of people have had / are having the same problem and I doubt it is all due to a bad CD-ROM drive corrupting everyone's hard drive.
Some people are saying that it is a RAM problem, but I am almost positive that both of my DDR are sticks are working fine.
Some people are saying that it is a corrupt kernel32.dll file, which can be repaired by using your Windows XP cd.
If anyone finds a definite answer to this, you'd help out a lot of people. |

scoutthedog,
Welcome to Techimo. You should start your own thread so as not to "hijack" this thread from the original poster. The problem you're experiencing can be caused by any number of issues, which may or may not be the same as the original poster's. That's why it's important to create your own thread, so we can focus on your problem only .
[edit]
Oh and when you do create your own thread, please include as much information about your computer as possible, such as motherboard make and model, CPU, video card, power supply, ram, hard drives, sound cards, etc... as well as any background information like how long the problem has been happening, did anything happen to "trigger" the problem, etc. This helps tremendously with the troubleshooting.

It looks like a disk issue. That can be the drive or the controller. If it is the controller, you may be looking at a new motherboard.
If it were me, I would boot up with Knoppix and look at the drives |
