Sense Operation Failed / Delayed Write Failed

Running on my PCV-RS410 Sony Vaio [reg 256ram upg to 512, 120 GB hdd] for a few years, ran smoothly ever since, not going to lie, my cousin was trying to "fix up" my ipod with linux.

I told him to back up my songs first onto the computer because i dont wanna lose any of that stuff...

    [35gigs roughly worth of music]

so him being the illegal fob as he is, downloads a program, and tries to download a program from seriall.com i belive. it infected my computer with tons of popups and messages from the "Messenger Service"

annoyed as i was i had a solution for that problem as i had always done with my older computer, use my restoration cd's to only restore DRIVE C.

Thinking it would work, i was wronged by the first arrival of the "Disk Access:Sense Operation Failed". Consulting my friend, [who actually breaks computers to fix it] he had no clue what it meant. I bypassed it finally with partitioning my entire drive... and losing everything including my drive D. Saddened, i was like "well at least it will work this time right?" wrong...

After working my computer for a bit, i thought it was going smoothly. Eventually id get a warning symbol in a yellow triangle in the bottom right saying "Delayed Write Failed" of C:/$mft D:/$mft C:/Windows/System32 and alot more other junk. And eventually i go for the good old Restart.

After restarting my computer, i happen to find that my computer wont get pass the loading screen, now i always find.. this is time for another reformat of my drive. So i go try to reformat my computer with the restore cd's, i happen to find that i get the Disk Access Sense Operation Failed message again, after several attempts and changing from my main cdrw/dvdrw drive to my cd-r it worked about three times in total. Now about restarting my entire computer for the Thirty Seventh time, i belive there is something very wrong with my computer, whenever i get it up, its always back to the Delayed Write Failed.

The Last time i got my computer up, it ran for a world record of 1 day, while running http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/virusscan.aspx about 10 times, it said nothing, but then again came along the Delayed Write Failed Message.

Now the computer keeps bugging me about no disk in my H G F drives and i have yet to be able to begin the reformat process.

Any Suggestions, Comments or Procedures...It Would Be a GREAT help, Thank you

    Kind Regards,
    Reimill Jey Haya Hinahon

Even tech support from Sony doesn't have answers for this one. If everything that you try is not working you will have to use another copy of XP, format the drive and install it.

I use to have the same problem, contacted tech support and they told me that the drive was bad but with the diag tool from the manufacturer (seagate) i was able to find that the drive was fine. It's a problem with Vaio computers that is well knows but there's not too much to do with it unless you format and install a copy of XP (legit of course) without using the recovery cd.

    Good Luck

How about doing a low-level format? And then install from restore cd.

Ive tried doing a kill disk operation the other day, and it says something is wrong with my drive, it said to check the geometrics of the drive and it didnt complete. but yet i still have no clue what to do, as of right now its working fine, running 8 hours... still yet to have seen the delayed write failed.
