We have had alot of storms here lately and a friend of mine has only a surge protector connected to his computer. He didn't unplug any of it during any of the storms. He has tried to start up his computer since the last storm and It doesn't do anything. The green light comes on by the power supply on the back of the computer when it's plugged in, but nothing else happens. Could his power supply be fried??
Thanks for any responses,
Chuppet

Firstly, try another PS. If that doesnt work, it could be hardware related.
Similar thing happened to me, once i changed it, everything was perfect again. That PS was almost 5 years old anyway.

Does he use dial up with a connected modem?
more often it is a charge through the phone line rather than a power issue when it is through a surge protector... |

He has cable internet service. Today he brought it to my house and it was the same when I hooked it up, only I didn't use a surge protector. I think I will try to replace the power supply and see what happens. Thanks |

Properly ground all power, telephone, and coaxial cable lines through an approved surge protector! (DUH!)
Also, a UPS with a runtime of a few minutes, available for under $100, is a good investment as it gives you time to save your work and shut down your computer properly.
