| Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card not detected WINXP
Hello,
I have a Dell 4500 that came preinstalled with a Santa Cruz sound card.
On one previous occassion I unplugged my computer to move when I had gotten everything moved and plugged back in the soundcard and the cd drive wouldn't work, I don't remember what the problem was but I was able to fix it by searching online for the problem and there was a solution which involved changing a setting in either the bios or the config, anyway it all started to work again no problems.
Recently I added RAM so unplugged everything and was careful to be grounded so no static etc, put the RAM card in plugged everything back in. RAM works fine sound card no longer detected. Unplugged and opened comp back up made sure everything was plugged in tightly inside etc, still no sound card. Downloaded new drivers, deleted old drivers still no sound card. There in nothing in device manager for Turtle Beach or Santa Cruz there isn't a multimedia device category either.
Any ideas as to what else I can do to get it to work?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Have you tried reseating your sound card in any other empty PCI slot?

^^Try another PCI slot. Many people sometimes have PCI slots that dont function/ are defective.
Future advice. Next time you add RAM, just put in the RAM. You dont need to unplug anything. |

If you are talking about the Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card that was out about 4 years ago, it had a special programmable Digital Signal Processor (DSP) connector in the back.
This could be assigned a variety of different functions.
See where your speakers/headphones are connected and if any of them is on the DSP connector, which I recall was the last on one end of the rear breakout.
Check exactly how your card has been configured to work. Since each time you had a problem was when you unplugged stuff, you may have sent the card into DEFAULT configuration, which may impact on your problems.
Also do a Search here on that card. I recal several people who owned it as it was a highly regarded sound card in its time. Its probably still a good card. See if you can find any info under the name Voyetra.

Ah ! DOOG discovered that Voyetra Turtle Beach (VTB) has divided its hardware division into TURTLE BEACH and its Software division into VOYETRA.
Here are some info I was able to find, as t is a discontinued product:
First, you received an OEM version, which is different from the Retail version--although precisely how it's different is not stated. In regard to your Question as to why your Task Manager won't "see" the Sound Card, one thing struck me: The card is allocated one IRQ and only one IRQ.
Can you find an IRQ in your system reserved for this Card ???
See below some items that might be of some help..

SYSTEM RESOURCES In all supported operating systems, the following resources are set automatically when the Santa Cruz setup is run: - One IRQ for the PCI Audio Accelerator/DSP (NOTE: In Windows 98 only, there is a Santa Cruz Game Device for Legacy DOS support. This is disabled by default to limit resource usage to one IRQ, as this driver is not required for Windows functionality. For Windows 98, the Santa Cruz Game Device driver can be enabled from within the Santa Cruz Control Panel, which would require one additional IRQ and DMA channel. )
