DVD-RW problem

Hello,

I just replaced a CDROM drive with a DVD-RW drive (NEC 3550A). This is the 2nd drive on the system and is operated as slave, the first master drive being a Plextor.

Anyhow, the Plextor lets me access the drive when there's no disc or even a blank disk in there, and copy/paste stuff to the drive to be written. The NEC only lets me access the drive if there's a written CD in there, I can't open up a blank disc and copy stuff to the folder to be written.

Any ideas on why this might be happening? Thanks!

Possibly a driver issue. Are you sure Windows is recognizing the drive as a burner?

It does let me burn stuff to it with the included software though (Nero).

I don't use the Windows built-in IMAPI burning software, but I'd guess that it's limited to one drive either generally or because the old drive wasn't a burner.

If it's the latter, then you may be able to fix it by removing both drives and rebooting.
