Post PC keeps restarting every now and then

    Hi to all,

I have just joined TECH IMO, this site looks excellent for doing Discussions about PC's.

As you can tell I do have a PC problem every so often my PC just restarts by it self even if I click on a mapped drive or a program it will just reboot, it even reboots if I un-plug my USB Flash Drive.

I have unchecked the tick for the Automatically restart in the Startup and Recovery section, and when it did decide to restart I got this message on the BSOD STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0X806EE753, 0XB11BFBOC, 0X00000000). My system temp is 41º and CPU is 38º.

I have been told it may be a Power Supply probem, which I can solve quite quickly.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post

Sorry forgot to tell you all my PC specs, I built this PC in May 2003 the only 2 things I added around 6 months ago was a DVD burner and some memory. The restarts only started about 3 months ago even then they were once every now and then and recently it has been restarting 2 or 3 times daily, it's getting quite annoying now.

    PC Specs:

    Mother Board: KT400 Series - GA-7VAXP
    Power Supply: KM Korea GP-350ATX 12v P4 +12 = 13amps
    Graphics Card: SiS 315E 64MB
    2 512MB Rams
    1 DVD Writer
    1 Zip Drive
    OS Windows XP SP2

I have noticed that one of the fins on my fan is broken, the fan is located on the back of the PC where the PCI slots are. I've installed Gigabyte EasyTune4
and noticed that it had a warning for that fan that the speed is 2860 RPM I take it this is bad, could this be my problem.

    Thats highly unlikely...
More likely its a failing power supply....
unplug that fan and replace it along with a decent power supply before doing much else...
13A is pretty low for that system... and likely its able to provide much less, before becoming unstable...

This FSP has more on one +12V rail, than yours has altogether

Thank you for your advice JPMiller, I will buy a new Power Supply and fan over the weekend and swop it all over. I will post the results when I have done this.
Once again thank you for your help.

    re:PC RESTARTING PROBLEM

I had the restarting problem on my computer. It turned out to be Norton Internet Security 2006. I switched back to NIS 2005 and the problem stopped.

It can also be spyware. I have REGISTRY FIX and also PC REGISTRY CLEANER.
These two are excellent for rooting out spyware in the registry.

Anti-spyware programs I use are SPYWARE DOCTOR, XSOFTSPY,ALURIA.
I have SPYSWEEPER, but since SPYWARE DOC updates daily, SPYSWEEPER rarely finds anything and I'm not going to renew it.

PC MIGHTY MAX can save you hours of downtime on your computer. It fixes errors, missing files, damaged shortcuts,etc... The yearly price is worth it.

    I hope this helps

Thanks for the info PCTRAIL, I'm running Norton 2005 Anti Virus Edition and I still get the same problem.
One thing I forgot to mention is that my PC is linked up to other PC's on a network. Basicly our network is like this we have 6 PC's (inc mine) 1 network printer and 1 Apple Mac connected to our modem/router the Mac is only used as a Film RIP to process films. The Mac is only mapped to my PC it seems like everytime I click the mapped hard drive icon my PC restarts.

I have unplugged the network cable from the Mac and my PC has not restarted so far, I will see what it is like for the next few days, otherwise I will get a new power supply for my PC.

Thanks for all your help so far.

A quick update since unplugging the Apple Mac from the Network, my PC has not restarted today I'm gonna try a new network cable tomorrow and see what happens when I connect the Mac back to the network, if my PC restarts again the possibilities are that the network port on the Mac is failing.

Hopefully this will be the case and my PC will be ok.

Or someone could be using Group Policy to restart your machine. Are you guys on a domain? Someone also could be using scripts to do the task through the network. PC Magazine is dangerous for consumers .
