| yet another windows stability problem...
Hi guys...
CURSE ALL THINGS MICROSOFT!!
Sorry, little frustrated over here. Thing is I've just spent the last six months trying to fix my PC (Specs below... don't shout at me yet...)
It took this long because I couldn't find me a half-decent winXP disc... But then I did.
Now I have a lovely "clean" installation of windows (Well, it is windows... how clean can it be?) and yet I still get spontaneous reboots and lovely BSOD's that tell me I have a page fault in the nonpaged area... ok, how in the name of all things burgundy does THAT make any sense?? Am I missing something or am I just dumb? please advise... I'm going to go bald...
SPECS: (See, I told you)
ASRock P4VM800 Mobo
Intel Celeron 1.7GHz
384 MB RAM in 2 DIMM lots at 133 MHz (I know... I know...)
40 GB HDD (Maxxtor I think...)
Currently using onboard sound and audio - VIA chipsets I believe... |

Hello,
Hmmm...Let's start with the Windows XP CD...is it a legal copy (original disk)? If not...maybe the person that copeid it for you didn't copy it correctly. Maybe your Hard Drive is failing. Did you try doing a scan disk to ensure that the disk is working properly? |

Yes, if you don't even have a legal copy of XP you won't get any help here.
Otherwise it could be quite a few things...
Run a memory tester overnight www.memtest86.com
And whats the make/model of your power supply?
Have you checked your harddrive for errors? |

yes, it is a genuine disk. and as to the PSU I've no idea - it's the one that came with it but until I get home I can't say what in the nine hells that is.
I did get some stability programs for it including advanced windowscare and the like - however it crashes before I can sucessfully run them on it. :@
Nice to hear my harddrive might be failing. Last thing i bloody need. |

Check all your hardware before you start ranting about MS being the fault. As EX said run memtest and check your hardrive. |

Page fault in non page error is a typical error related to memory corruption....
There could be a RAM and/or HDD issue at hand |

Also, when I try to boot from the XP CD, i get - setup is inspecting your hardware configuration - then black screen until I get bored which takes about an hour...
Methinks I might need a new harddrive. At least... |

This one I think is the only one EVER!
Damn it Calhoun you're ranting again.... dooobady dooo...
Now for some 80dB Bon Jovi to calm myself down.... |
