XP reinstall 'lost' my Hard drive

XP reinstall 'lost' my Hard drive
Hello!
i'm new to your board, hope you don't mind helping out....

I just attempted to reinstall windows xp onto my pc (something i am no stranger to). everything went fine, up to the final reboot before getting back to the desktop, and during startup i realised that my computer could no longer see my hard drive.
i checked in the bios and it won't auto-detect, says theres nothing there, this has never happened before, and i have no idea how to solve this problem.
please help!

ide drive, i've got 3 other hard drives attached, but have never had any conflicts before...
i realised something was wrong when it booted straight from cd to the xp cd install menu and only showed 3 drives
