Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this. I am currently haveing an issue with my display. My basic computer specs are;
Dell XPS Gen2
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 2.00 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
100 GB hd
Geforce 6800 Ultra graphics card
When I boot up, there are glitchy lines on the screen across the Dell logo, and on the Windows Home edition logo's, and Weird codes on the black screens, like @ signs, and smiley faces, and other random characters. When Windows starts, everything has glitches in it on the screen, and just looks nasty. I guess the best way to describe it would be a mild distortion like display.
My teacher and I have already tested the RAM, the display screen, and hard drive to make sure that it wasnt any other hardware. However we have no way of testing the motherboard or the graphics card because it can only use the Geforce 6800 Ultra for that model XPS since it's a laptop. My conclusion is that the graphics card overheated, considering we took a layer of dust off of the vents when we took it apart. The only thing that leads me to believe it could be a motherboard problem is that it wont let me use the graphics card driver, it will fail to load windows everytime I install the driver, and then I have to go in safe mode and remove it. I am currently running every driver except the graphics card driver, and it's doing fine with the exeption of running games, and intense video applications//programs.
I was wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem, tips on fixing it (if any), Determining if it's motherboard or graphics, or boath.
I appreciate any efford to help with this situation, Thanks in advance, Jonathan.
