Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 runs very hot.
Well my cpu stays idle at 40c most of the time. Under load though it usually goes upto 75c. This is when I'm playing games. Now first I thought my mobo, ASUS P5B Deluxe was just giving me a wrong temp reading. I thought this because I ran Prime95's torture testand the comp was at 85c for along time. But it never crashed and the comp ran perfectly fine. So then I just decided the comp was fine. I was told that at 85c any CPU should have crashed. I even touched the heatsink to see if it is hot and it would never get hot. It would get just alittle hotter from 40c to 85c.
But today I heard of a program called CORE TEMP BETA 0.93 and it is supost to be very accurate at reading the cpu temp. It is tellin me both cpu's are at 40c. So now I think the ASUS temp reader was right, if this program really is accurate.
Do you guys think that my cpu will stop working soon because of the such high temps? I was thinking of buying a new heatsink and arctic cooler 5 but I only want to buy it if I really need too because after buyin this new comp I am broke. Is there anything I can do to be 100% sure that the cpu is fine and won't get damaged because of the heat? If you guys need any more info to help address the problem just ask me I will try to look at this thread often.

Take the tempurature manually. Open up the case and feel the heatsink while you are playing games. If it still feels cool, I'd say that it is a bad sensor.

If you read my original post I mentioned that I did touch the heatsink when it was suppost to be at 85c. But then there could always be a slight chance that the thermal heat pad or whatever it is called is messed up. Does anyone have info on this cpu and running hot? On newegg a lot of people review it saying it idles at 40c and gets real hot for them also. This makes me think the thermal heat pad is messed up.

Download and run Throttlewatch. Run it while gaming & it will let you know if the temperature is getting high enough to throttle the CPU. Intels and newer AMDs throttle themselves when they get too hot. This protects the CPU from damage, but also results in a reduction in performance.

Do all these programs run off the same cpu sensor? Because if they do and if the sensor is messed up all these programs are useless right?
EDIT: I got throttlewatch but I don't see where you can check the temp. Does it do it automatically? I thought I would of had to set the alarm in the options.

Throttlewatch will let you know if the TM1 or TM2 throttles are active. If there is no throttling, then your temps are fine.

but isnt it the same thing whatever programme you use? cuz you are still using the same sensor to take the CPU temp which ever programme you use. so if the sensor is screwed up thenit wouldnt make no diff right?

From what I recall from reading several threads about these boards there is a known issue with temp readings. You can check the ASUS P5B forums for possible answers also do some googleing and you might find some more answers. Like I said its a know issue with some of these boards.
