| Can't boot Windows - frustrated!
Ok - here's my story in a nutshell. I'm running windows 2000 - I tried to install a backup program yesterday and got a runtime error, so I called tech support and they said to uninstall the program and re-boot. That's when I got this
"Inaccessible_boot_device" at one point I also got
"QL1240.sys corrupted" - but I haven't gotten that again
I loaded my Windows 2000 disk and got to the Recovery
I did a fixboot
and a fix MBR
neither worked I did a
CHKDSK /p
and got
CHKDSK found errors on this volume
I have NO idea what to do next because it still won't work. I'm SOOO NOT good at this. I'm really out of my element. These were just all the suggestions I found online.
Does anyone have any advice?

Does Windows 2000 have a repair option that you can run from the installation CD? If so you should try that. If it's anything like XP's repair option, it will replace the OS files, leaving your installed apps, documents, pics, etc in place.

A repair install is Enter at the 'Welcome Screen', [F8] at the EULA, then 'R' to repair the installation. It's a simple reinstall of the core OS files and fixes many a busted OS (XP/2K/2K3), leaving your installed apps in place. If it doesn't work exactly as explained, then the OS install was damaged beyond repair...

A Windows Repair will not delete the My doucments. The My Documents folder is located in the Users profile. The REpair will only replace corrupted or missing files from the Windows folder or whatever you decided to call your Root folder. It will not bother anything else.
